How To Stay Cool With LaCroix Sparkling Water

It’s official…LaCroix drinkers are obsessed.

Sales of the carbonated drink have jumped from $65 million in 2010 to $226 million in 2015 and shares have soared nearly 300%.

LaCroix is the No. 1 brand of flavored bottled water in the United States, with almost a quarter of the market share.

Carbonated water is also known as club soda, soda water, sparkling water and fizzy water is just water into which carbon dioxide gas has been dissolved.

LaCroix soda is simply water, carbon dioxide, natural flavorings and no other additives.

It’s been around since the 80’s but the sparkling water has just recently reached a cult-like status in the last couple of years.

Rise to Fame
LaCoix was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1981 and named after the nearby St. Croix River.

The soda’s popularity happened without any traditional advertising but instead came from influential bloggers and fitness icons paid to “love” the drink on social media.

LaCroix instead invested heavily in social-media marketing and ugly neon packaging.

Beverage Digest Editor, Duane Stanford, told Business Insider, “Millennials see it as a discovery — something only they know about and their friends know about since it’s not in their face all the time,” Stanford said.

One successful online campaign, “Shed the Sugar Sweepstakes,” gave LaCroix drinkers Tory Burch tote bags.

LaCroix also had a “40 Can Challenge” campaign that asked consumers to swap a can of diet or sugary soda for LaCroix for 40 days and then share photos and stories online.

Men Drink It Too!
It’s not just women who are drinking the stuff, even men are devoting fridge space to the brand.

Guys trying to kick the habit of soda and energy drinks have empbraced carbonated flavors like piña fraise and pamplemousse.

There are 62 grams of sugar in a 16 oz energy drink can and almost 300 hidden calories.

Energy drinkers become addicted to the sugar and the caffeine and sometimes consume up to 3 or 4 a day.

The health benefits from kicking the habit are lower blood pressure, better sleep, weight loss and healthier teeth.

The financial savings is pretty significant as well.

An energy drink that costs $3 a day equals $21 a week and $1,095 a year.

Multiply that by 2 or 3 and you got yourself a used Prius in a few years.

LaCroix drinker and blogger Liam Donafee said he had to drink an entire case before he learned to love it.

He now flies to different states to access different flavors and raps about the beverage on YouTube.

New Flavors are Hard to Find

There are 12 official LaCroix flavors but most consumers only see about half of them regularly on shelves.

Only a few random flavors are available at specific retailer so it creates the perception of scarcity.

Customers will then “freak out” and buy their favorite flavors in bulk whenever they can.

LaCroix recently added new flavors that include; coconut, apricot, passion fruit, mango, pamplemoussen (grapefruit in French), berry, and cerise limón.

No Sugar Please
In the last couple of years, regular soda sales have plummeted as Americans consume less sugar.

That’s one reason why LaCroix, which contains no sweeteners, has taken over the mainstream.

Sales of LaCroix have more than doubled from 2014 to 2016 and continue to grow.

Consumers don’t want the calories of regular soda or the artificial sweeteners of diet drinks.

Drinkers everywhere are embracing LaCroix not because of what is in the soda but what is not.

It contains no calories, sweeteners, sodium or anything artificial.

It’s ingredients are just carbonated water and natural flavor.

Drinkers claim the soda helps keep up with all the water we’re supposed to drink daily … without being boring.

LaCroix takes care of soda fix with no guilt.

Sustainable Soda
LaCroix is more than just a favorite drink.

Canned water is better for the environment because the recycling rate for cans is nearly twice that of plastic.

Aluminium can be recycled forever — without losing any of its qualities.

Since it takes more energy to produce aluminium than any other metal, it’s a lot cheaper to recycle it than dig it up.

LaCroix’s water is also responsibly sourced here in the U.S. and tastes like fruit.

It has no artificial sweeteners and is flavored with naturally extracted fruit oils.

Sparkling Water Market

The U.S. sparkling-water market is only one-tenth of bottled water but it grew 26% in 2015, according to the Beverage Marketing Corp.

Big soda’s efforts to tap into sparkling water weren’t as successful.

Coca-Cola and PepsiCo saw their market share in the sparkling water market shrink 4 and 5.5 % from 2010 to 2014.

LaCroix fans love the less sleek neon cans because they don’t have corporate associations

LaCroix is also growing faster than rivals because they are less expensive.

Retailers like Target, Publix Super Markets and Whole Foods quickly gave LaCroix shelves and floor displays.

Your Cool Aunt from Milwaukee
The stuff comes from Wisconsin and those people are professional drinkers.

I’m still hungover from a wedding I went to there in the 90’s.

LaCroix is a no carb, no sugar, no sodium mixer for cocktails!

So pack your new energy efficient NewAir Soda cooler up and make it really cold, like 45 degrees.

Because nobody wants a drink made with warm soda.
